anyON™ Frequently Asked Questions

ã 2007 eMedia Tech. Ltd. [v1.1.0.1Beta]

Q: My login failed when using the user name & password pair provided in the manual. Why?

A: You are not communicating with the anyON Servers, this is typically caused by a LAN firewall that blocks the anyON from communicating with the Login Server and Directory Service; ask your administrator for help. In case of a personal firewall, it will pop up a window asking you to allow the anyON traffic to go through.

Q: Do I need to buy an anyON TV Tuner to Create an Internet TV channel?

A: No. You can Create a channel from any media: from a media file; from a DVD/CD playback; from a Web Cam or any standard video device, even from your PC screen I/O, as long as you have the right device driver for anyON to detect it. anyON automatically loops through a media file to simulate a continuous, live channel broadcasting.

Q: What mode do I select to distribute a channel?

A: If you only have a few viewers well connected, the User Streaming mode is fast and recommended. If you have an unknown number of viewers around the world, the Broadcast mode is recommended. If the channel source is remote and/or across many networks, or in case it is hidden (non-public), then the Personal Push mode is recommended.

Q: I cannot find channel CCTV-5 for a basketball game from China on any channel list. Is it true anyON offers unlimited channels globally?

A: anyON offers a social media platform, instead of content services, for Internet users to publish and access unprecedented content worldwide. We can enable any video portal or ICP to extend its distribution coverage into a new space. Until we do this with channels like CCTV-5, a user has to join in an existing channel, or arrange a peer to generate a new channel who has access to the target content. It is our vision that each user will contribute to the growth of this exciting social media network.

Q: I asked a friend to deliver a college football game from my Alma Mater. I click the User Streaming channel my friend published with the key he sent but cannot see the channel streaming. The message box said ¡°Ready¡± after ¡°Receiving streams¡¡± What happened?

A: Your friend may have forgotten to configure the source PC to be ¡°visible¡± to you via making its IP address public (setting the DMZ to enable IP address pass through); or there is a firewall or other network-filtering scheme blocking the stream from reaching you. If your friend is not familiar with changing settings, you can do it at your end, and ask him to use the Personal Push mode to deliver the game to you. Please refer to the anyON user manual for instructions.

Q: Is it normal to see a slow buffering process in receiving a channel?

A: It depends. The anyON platform is a social media platform ¨C the more users, the better performance. For popular Broadcast channels, or any User Streaming channels, the buffering should only take a few seconds or less. Slow buffering occurs when a broadcast channel is newly created or has only a few viewers tuning in. It does take at least 30 seconds to set up a Personal Push; the result is a guaranteed delivery in a lossy Internet across many networks.

Q: Why do I see empty tables in the User Map and in different Channel Lists?

A: You are temporarily disconnected from the Login Server or Directory Service. Either the network dropped the login, or some servers are down (or in regular maintenance service). You can wait for an automatic reconnect, or simply restart the anyON.

Q: I tune in to an open channel. But the streaming video is jittery and broken. Why?

A: You must either tune in a streaming channel targeting a local community of users; or your access speed (broadband access speed) does not meet the anyON system requirements. Internet video demands more than a dial-up access; and many WLAN access networks are still not able to support such applications.
